This afternoon is the last to enjoy Children of the 80’s and for this special party they wanted to have Just Kool, the reduced version of the band Kool & The Gang, headed by Mohamed Moretta, author of the 1982 remix of their hit ‘Get Down On It’, who is the singer now.
Talking to Diario de Ibiza, Moretta explained the purpose of his performance this afternoon: “What we’re doing now is picking it up when Kool & The Gang left the island, because we would like to bring back the entire band, however, Just Kool is the smaller version of the band. So it’s Kool, the founder; Amir, the guitar player and me as the singer.
Back to ‘Get Down On It’: on 1982 I made the 12 inch remix and I brought Kool & The Gang into the nightclub world, because back then DJs would not play an album cut from Kool & The Gang. Maybe at house parties, but big nightclubs only played 12 inch records.
So, what we did 36 years ago together we are doing it again, and that is bringing Kool & The Gang back into the club scene and dance culture with a new generation, with new versions. So I re-did Get Down On It, and I am now the lead vocalist. It is very much like the original, we kept the flavour and people even think that’s J.T.’s voice.
I also I re-did ‘Fresh‘ here at the Ushuaïa Lab recording studio, and I also re-did ‘Misled’ with Matias playing all the new guitars. It’s really taking back from where Kool & The Gang was and coming back with this new sound of Kool & The Gang, which is Just Kool».
